This one of the only villa's in the village. By 2012 this villa had seen better days. The inside is covered in graffiti, the windows broken, the basement so full of water you couldn't go down into to it. A gentleman who was born and raised in the village, who something of the local unofficial guide, advised me not to go into many of the buildings due the condition of some. I have seen this house when it was lived in and looked lovely.
I don't think I have seen this before. That's too bad that it's been abandoned because it looks like it was quite beautiful. I love the angle of this shot, it makes the building look large and almost alive.
This one of my older ones. Currently, working on more in this set at the moment. I did go inside of the house and wasn't supposed to either. There was a fence in front of it. The house inside is covered in spray paint & the basement is totally flooded. You would need hip-waders or a scuba tank at this point to get down there.
Thank you!! I have never really been terribly sure of the angle even months later.
One of the last villas, a place from the 1100's. Yeah I can see all the harm it's doing to the land. Absolutely beautiful picture, but I'm mad as hell. We're suppose to preserve old buildings!:
There are 3 in total that still remain and each in appalling states. One of the 3 was the summer home of Peter Paul Rueben's(Flemish 17th century Master artist and Belgian national treasure) family. Doel is also the last remaining polder village which a Dutch/Flemish word for swamp(roughly translated) here in Belgium. There is another in Holland that is a protected UNESCO site which is also the hope for here. Belgium normally is outstanding in the fact that the govt preserves its old buildings and villages. But,Doel came down to money and the Port of Antwerp. If you Google it,look down the river and then up the river out to the North Sea...you can what was destroyed. Doel remains..if only by a thread.
This is ongoing project at the moment and more will be uploaded as soon as I return the village. Thank you kindly for your comments and thoughts.
